Ten years ago I took the now 17 & 19 year old granddaughters to Carl’s Jr. playland once a week when I watched them 3-5 days a week. They loved it. Back then I only had a flip phone so I visited with moms & dads & grandparents, read a book or wrote things. Now I have my iPhone so I can stay busy when no other adults are around! What with Covid madness still lingering as far as employee shortages go, the 8 & 6 year olds had to wait hours today before we could go there. It’s now Sonic burgers but the play area is the same except for the tables. The screaming & yelling in the big colorful tubes is still the same! Of course I usually don’t encourage yelling but there are no other kids here yet. Lol!
Sometimes years ago when no other adults showed up I felt lonely, especially when my two granddaughters were the only ones here. Today the 19 year old is with her boyfriend’s family & the 17 year old is at a volleyball tournament where they won a Silver trophy! Now I can connect with all my friends & family on social media if I’m the only grownup here. Boy, the sacrifices we make for our kids eh? But seriously, some people have real problems right?
So, if you are feeling like this chapter with teens will never end, just remember one of my favorite sayings. “This too shall pass”. And just be glad that you probably won’t have to repeat this again in 10 years! But, even if you do, you will be given the grace & patience to do it well, just as I have been given. ❤️
